Nounsitcoms
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A television situation comedy, often shortened to sitcom, is a genre of comedy that features recurring characters in a common environment such as a home or workplace. A situation comedy may be recorded before a studio audience. Some also feature a laugh track. Such programs originated in radio. Today, sitcoms are found almost exclusively on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. CharacteristicsAs opposed to stand up comedy and sketch comedy, a situation comedy has a storyline and ongoing characters in, essentially, a comedic drama. The situation is usually that of a family, workplace, or a group of friends. Traditionally comedy sketches were presented within a variety show and mixed with musical performances, as in vaudeville. The emerging mass medium of radio allowed audiences to regularly return to programs, so programs could feature the same characters and situations each episode and expect audiences to be familiar with them. Sitcom humor is often character driven and by its nature running gags often evolve during a series. Often the status quo of the situation is maintained from episode to episode. An episode may feature a disruption to the usual situation and the character interactions, but this will usually be settled by the episode's end and the situation returned to how it was prior to the disruption. There are exceptions to this. Some shows feature story arcs across many episodes where the characters and situations change and evolve. From Wikipedia under the

And not necessarily with the original actors & actresses, since most of them are gone. Are there some sitcoms that you could not envision without the original cast? Asked by Gladys - Tue Aug 18 21:36:50 2009 - - 41 Answers - 0 Comments A. It's hard for me to envision my favorites without the original cast members. Part of the charm and humor was because of the actors. How could anyone else be Coach? Craig T. Nelson was perfect for that part, as was his sidekick Luther, played by Jerry VanDyke. I always saw this pair as the male equivalent of Lucy and Ethel with their hare-brained schemes to solve their problems. My second pick is the Mary Tyler Moore show. Again, who could replace her, Ed Asner, Ted Knight, Georgia Engalls, Valerie Harper, Cloris Leachman, Gavin McLeod, and Betty White in their unique roles? Third is Taxi. Again, the casting was perfect, especially Danny DeVito and Christopher Lloyd. This show was unique for its time period. Of course, I can't… [cont.] Answered by rosebud - Tue Aug 18 22:20:10 2009 How long did it take to film episodes of sitcoms? Q. Answered by ~~Kayleigh~~ - Sun Mar 1 11:26:56 2009 Why is Nick at Nite starting to air sitcoms that have been currently canceled?
Q. It used to be a network that aired shows that were popular at least 10 years earlier, now lately they're showing recently canceled shows like George Lopez, Malcolm in the Middle, and Everybody Hates Chris, which was just canceled in May. Asked by Veronica - Sat Aug 1 09:18:16 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. TVLand has been doing this too. Way back when, I wanted cable for Nick at Nite because they showed so many of the good old shows. Slowly they started airing "newer" old shows and spun the old ones off to TVLand. Now TVLand is doing the same thing and adding shows they call "original" programming-basically reality shows. I want my old shows back.
