Nounpublishers
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Publishing is the process of production and dissemination of literature or information – the activity of making information available for public view. In some cases authors may be their own publishers, meaning: originators and developers of content also provide media to deliver and display the content. Traditionally, the term refers to the distribution of printed works such as books (the "book trade") and newspapers. With the advent of digital information systems and the Internet, the scope of publishing has expanded to include electronic resources, such as the electronic versions of books and periodicals, as well as micropublishing, websites, blogs, video games and the like. Publishing includes: the stages of the development, acquisition, copyediting, graphic design, production – printing (and its electronic equivalents), and marketing and distribution of newspapers, magazines, books, literary works, musical works, software and other works dealing with information, including the electronic media. Publication is also important as a legal concept: (1) as the process of giving formal notice to the world of a significant intention, for example, to marry or enter bankruptcy; (2) as the essential precondition of being able to claim defamation; that is, the alleged libel must have been published, and (3) for copyright purposes, where there is a difference in the protection of published and unpublished works. GNU Free Documentation License What do publishers look for when they are looking over your book? Q. Hey, I need to know what publishers look for when they review your book. Would they publish a book written by a teen in high school? Do you have to pay a publisher a lot? After it got published, how long would you have to wait for it to be able to be sold in stores? One last thing: How would you find a publisher if you live in a small town? Asked by Eribelle - Tue Sep 23 17:52:43 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I don't know what they look for. But I suggest you subscribe to Writer's Digest. They have a lot of information for first time writers. Good luck! Answered by Kristax3 - Tue Sep 23 18:02:18 2008 What publishers are interested in publishing a non-fiction book on the psychological aspects of criminology? Q. I am writing a book about teenagers and young adults (primarily males) who commit terrible crimes: school shooters, serial killers, and mass murderers are some examples. I am writing the book from the perspective of the psychological and sociological backgrounds of the perpetrators; this will not be a book detailing the crime itself; the thrust of the book is to understand why these men commit these crimes so that one can intervene and prevent others from doing so. What publishers specialize in such books? Asked by Henrietta - Thu May 13 15:18:23 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. See if you can find a literary agent first, and then the agent will find a publisher for you. aaronline.org has a list of ethical agents, as does agentquery.com. If you can't get an agent then there are some small publishers that take unsolicited manuscripts that publish non-fiction. I used to have a list of small publishers, but my computer went up in smoke, so I don't have access to my bookmarks. You can also find a list of publishers at under the Writer beware and background check section. Answered by Joss - Thu May 13 15:23:07 2010 I would like to start an online magazine subscription company. How do I go about speaking to mag publishers?
Q. I have a unique marketing concept and I would like to start an online magazine company that allows people to order right online. I understand that there are many others out there but my unique concept is better than those. I would like some ideas about contacting the magazine publishers and setting the wheels in motion and getting my site up. Any comments would be appreciated. Asked by BT S - Thu Apr 5 18:06:17 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. You already know this has a lot of competition from big players: Publishers Cleaning House, and others, in addition to the large magazine empires. Your unique marketing concept must give the magazines a very good reason to add you to their methods of selling subscriptions. In order to attract your attention, you must first convince them: a. your idea is truly unique, and well beyond what they are using now. b. you have the financial stability to enter into a joint venture with them. (The last thing they want is for you to collect money from subscribers, and not pay them. This would harm the magazine substantially.) This is a huge factor. The magazines are not going to do this with a start-up that has a chance of failing.
