From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. An encyclopedia (also spelled encyclopaedia or encyclopædia) is a comprehensive written compendium holding information from either all branches of knowledge or a particular branch of knowledge. Encyclopedias are divided into articles with one article on each subject covered. The articles on subjects in an encyclopedia are usually accessed alphabetically by article name and can be contained in one volume or many volumes, depending on the amount of material included. Indeed, the purpose of an encyclopedia is to collect knowledge disseminated around the globe; to set forth its general system to the men with whom we live, and transmit it to those who will come after us, so that the work of preceding centuries will not become useless to the centuries to come; and so that our offspring, becoming better instructed, will at the same time become more virtuous and happy, and that we should not die without having rendered a service to the human race in the future years to come. — Diderot OverviewFrom Wikipedia under the

It is a secondary source. Answered by John A - Sun Feb 11 21:18:55 2007 Is a complete set of Encyclopedia Britannica worth anything? Q. We have complete macropaedia and micropedia sets of Encyclopedia Britannica 15th Edition from 1980. Are these books worth anything or alternatively, do you think anyone would want them for any reason? Asked by maigen_obx - Sun Oct 18 20:30:03 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. They would Probally be worth alot if sold together, but it depends mainly on the market that you have around you. My grandparents have a complete set but I can't remember what edition, but I know that they are worth a lot of money (can't remember what amount they said). Most people probally wouldn't really want them. Internet and the bulk of all the books make it hard for people to store them. Again it depends on the market around you Answered by Kira - Sun Oct 18 20:38:41 2009 Who is the author of The World Book Encyclopedia?
